Meeting point: WE GUIDE YOU Tourist Office, Arkade, Ground floor

The WE GUIDE YOU program has been expanded this year to offer a variety of themed tours for every age group and predilection. Each one lasts about two hours, takes place rain or shine, and features several festival venues. Mandatory preregistration at the WE GUIDE YOU Tourist Office on the Ground Floor of the Arkade!

Highlight Tour
The 2014 Ars Electronica Festival is taking leave of many customary venues to seek out new locations in the inner city. We’ll check out the Change Gallery in the Arkade shopping mall and discover media art from all over the world in the display windows of shops on Herrenstraße and Spittelwiese, experience the Bishop’s Residence and the Cathedral from new points of view, and encounter works that won Golden Nicas at this year’s Prix Ars Electronica. This tour includes admission to the Ars Electronica Center on the day of the tour (or on the following day for members of the 6 PM tour group).

Digital History Tour
How long have artists been creating media art, actually? What were the first digital works of art? How can historical technologies and edifices be put to new uses? Answers to these questions are provided by Linz’s Cathedral (as event venue) as well as by the 2014 Prix Ars Electronica, which awarded its first Golden Nica to a Visionary Pioneer of Media Art this year and thus focused attention on what is actually now the rather long history of this genre.

New Technologies Tour
This tour will make you smile and fill you with amazement! Behold the extraordinary new applications emerging at the interface of art and science: figures whose movements resemble those of neither humans nor machines; robots that get along nicely without electronics; a labyrinth that constantly modifies the path through it, and a door that opens only when you charge at it full-speed ahead!
