NERVE – Lessons on Demand is an up-to-date Web platform developed by Clemens Großberger and Thomas Übelacker. Their aim: Providing online access to previous classroom instruction that a student—for whatever reason: tardiness, absence or to study for an exam—wishes to review.

Instructional units are presented in a clearly structured way, and can also be enriched with additional material by the teacher. Furthermore, NERVE makes available a clearly comprehensible, user-friendly application that academic administrators can custom-configure for their particular school.

Neue Mittelschule Hittisau (AT)

This is a joint project by the crafts & trades guilds of Hittisau-Sibratsgfäll and Riefensberg-Krumbach together with the Hittisau Intermediate School. The aim is to encourage qualified youngsters to pursue a career in the crafts & trades and to help students find the occupation that’s right for them.

With assistance from architects, designers, craftsmen and teachers, the students participating in Vorderhand design and build products in the respective crafts & trades workshops. The first step is for youngsters to come up with offbeat ideas by giving free rein to their creativity and inventiveness. Next, these innovative ideas are implemented, whereby the key criteria are for each student to personally perform as many job steps as possible under expert supervision and with the use of professional tools.

This exhibition showcases a selection of these creations:

BNC – The Amazing Coco Girls https://ars.electronica.art/ai/en/amazing-coco-girls/ Tue, 08 Aug 2017 10:16:09 +0000 https://ars.electronica.art/ai/?p=2505

In a three-day animation film workshop offered by the Media High School at BORG15, this crew used a cut-out technique to produce BNC – The Amazing Coco Girls. These very creative young people handled almost all the steps that went into the making of their short film, including the idea, storyboard and sound recordings. They received support from Peter Muzak, a member of the MUKATO animation film collective, who did the editing of the final cut and the audio.

The project’s point of departure was merely a working title; otherwise, the young filmmakers enjoyed complete creative freedom. The choice of the theme—a mix of sexual exploitation, drug abuse, and traditional gender roles—was extremely exciting for these youngsters, above all the issues that also pose a challenge for adults and, especially, teachers.

PSE-Lernspiele (PSE Learning Games) are fun ways to learn about the periodic table of the elements. The games involve cards, dice, atomic models, and other playful ideas. They’re for teachers to use in classroom instruction and for pupils as an enjoyable extracurricular learning tool.

Why not occasionally get back to “learning with materials” that let you grasp (in both senses of the word) the course content? So that learning can once again take place in the real world, and even in the company of others in the form of playing and working together! All game ideas and instructions are available online at www.chemie.land. The internet thus becomes the nexus of the virtual and real worlds.
