| Tissue Culture and Art (TC&A) ist ein laufendes Forschungs- und Entwicklungsprojekt, das Gewebekulturen und Gewebetechnik als Medium des künstlerischen Ausdrucks einsetzt. Eine Installation halblebendiger Sorgenpuppen, gezüchtet in einer künstlichen Gebärmutter, ist eine moderne Version der legendären guatemaltekischen Sorgenpuppen. Die geschlechtslosen, kindlichen Puppen stehen für den momentanen kulturellen Schwebezustand: er ist durch kindliche Unschuld und eine Mischung aus Neugier und Angst in Bezug auf die Schaffung eines neuen Geschlechts – und damit eines neuen Zeitalters – charakterisiert. | Tissue Culture and Art (TC&A) is an ongoing research and development project into the use of tissue culture and tissue engineering as a medium for artistic expression. An installation of semi living Worry Dolls, grown in the artificial womb, is a modern version of the legendary Guatemalan Worry Dolls. The genderless child-like dolls represent the current stage of cultural limbo: a stage that is characterized by child-like innocence, and a mixture of wonder and fear when we create the new sex – hence, a new era. |
