Business models are perhaps the most discussed and least understood aspect of the web. There is so much talk about how the web changes traditional business models. But there is little clear-cut evidence of exactly what this means. One of the few researchers who have specialized in this field is Michael Rappa (USA). In the Nominating Committee of the category Net Vision/Net Excellence of Prix Ars Electronica, he is covering the area of E-Commerce.
Micheal Rappa ist Professor of Technology Management at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, where he specializes in the study of e-commerce and the assessment of emerging technologies. Michael Rappa is the creator of one of the web's most extensive and widely used educational sites devoted to teaching the principles of electronic commerce, E-Commerce @ NC State. His course, Managing the Digital Enterprise, is the first of its kind to rely completely on web-based content. He also serves as the editor for e-commerce education for the Open Directory Project, a comprehensive directory of the web resources and he has been advisor in the area of e-commerce to former President Bill Clinton.
