The Prix Ars Electronica 2001 marks the 15th edition of the competition for cyberarts, which is organized by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF), Upper Austrian Regional Studio, in conjunction with the Ars Electronica Festival.
The Prix Ars Electronica 2001 is announced internationally for the areas of Net Vision / Net Excellence, Interactive Art, Digital Musics, Computer Animation/Visual Effects. In addition, there is also a competition for young people under the age of 19 in Austria, the category Cybergeneration - U19 freestyle computing.
In 2001, the section Net is placed on a broader basis and divided into the subcategories Net Vision and Net Excellence, in order to take into account the tempestuous development of this medium and the undiminished potential for creativity.
The juries of experts will award three money prizes and up to twelve Honorary Mentions in each category. The total prize money amounts to Euro 100.000 (USD 89,700). Entries may be submitted until April, 7th. The award presentation will take place on September 3, 2001 at the ORF Upper Austrian Regional Studio in Linz.
Zum 15. Mal veranstaltet dieses Jahr der ORF – Landesstudio Oberösterreich gemeinsam mit dem Festival Ars Electronica den Prix Ars Electronica 2001. Arbeiten können in den Sparten Net Vision / Net Excellence, Computeranimation / Visual Effects, Digital Musics und Interaktive Kunst sowie in der Kategorie Cybergeneration – U19 freestyle computing (für Kids aus Österreich unter 19 Jahren) eingereicht werden. Wesentliche Neuerung bei dieser Auflage des Prix Ars Electronica: Die frühere Kategorie .net wurde auf eine breitere Basis gestellt und in Net Vision / Net Excellence unterteilt, um den neuesten Trends im Netz Rechnung tragen zu können. Die international besetzte Jury vergibt in jeder Kategorie drei Geldpreise (insgesamt 100.000 Euro) und bis zu zwölf Anerkennungen.
Die Einreichfrist endet am 7. April 2001. Bekannt gegeben werden die Gewinner am 3. September anlässlich der Prix Ars Electronica Gala, die in 3sat und ORF 2 übertragen wird.
