| TAKEOVER Interviews: Christian Muhr |
| An encounter with the curator of 'stealing eyeballs - designing media' Free exhibition-maker, producer and author Christian Muhr has been following the phenomena of design in their various contexts and constellations over the years: together with Walter Pamminger in 1998 he brought 'signs of trouble - International Positions in Graphic Design of the 90's' to Austria and explored in 1999 with the exhibition fastforward - Fashion in the Media of the 90's. Christian Muhr (cmuhr@liquidfrontiers.com) works in a project-related cooperation form with the architecture- and design-group propeller z and since last year is focussing his conceptional and production work together with Sabine Dreher under the label 'liquidfrontiers', that deals with art, design, architecture and media. In his interview with Andreas Hirsch, Christian Muhr talks about Art, Graphic Design, authorship and double-agents. He considers the labeling of creative activities as “art” or “not art” as outdated and counterproductive. His special interest is with designers with a conceptive strength and a high level of reflection about their work. Many of the effects encountered today – like strategies around authorship or emerging collectives – seem to reflect developments that have been happening before in the art context. He finds designers often acting as “double agents”, when they try to remain authentic while at the same time selling their work in the corporate world.
