Experts at this year's Midemnet are convinced that the music industry has finally recognized the importance of the Internet for the distribution of music in the future. MP3 music platforms on the Internet – just think about Napster and MP3.Com – will be even more in the position on cooperating partners of the established music industry.
Artists as Peter Gabriel (in 1987 he has won the first Golden Nica in the former category Computer Music for the creative use of new technologies) express themselves in favour of a more intense use of virtual distribution forms. This would lead to a greater independence of the artists of the music industry, but it would also change the contact with their fans and other musicians.
Nach Einschätzung von Experten, die sich bei der heurigen Midemnet – heuer stand sie unter dem Motto 'Musik & Internet' - in Cannes versammelten, hat die Musikindustrie endgültig die Bedeutung des Internet als wichtigen Vertriebskanal der Zukunft erkannt. MP3-Musikplattformen im Internet wie etwa Napster und MP3.Com werden damit zunehmend von Gegnern zu respektierten Partnern der Musikindustrie. Ebenfalls für eine verstärkte Nutzung virtueller Kanäle sprachen sich bei der Midemnet namhafte Künstler wie Peter Gabriel (er gewann beim Prix Ars Electronica 87 die erste Goldene Nica in der Kategorie Computermusik für den kreativen Einsatz neuer Technologien in der Musik) aus, die sich nicht nur mehr Unabhängigkeit von Plattenfirmen, sondern auch einen direkteren Kontakt zu Fans und anderen Musikschaffenden via Internet erhoffen.
