This point of departure seems to emerge from a wired secular humanist
context and shows no sign of taking into account the world's massive (and
growing) Muslim population (estimated at around 1/4 of our total
population). Muslims have very different ideas and practices and laws from
the world that manufactures the ideas that you're talking about. (They have
a totally different calender, too.) In many cases fundamental Islamic
tenets (not to be confused with feeble western media-generated notions of
"fundamentalist Islam") are radically opposed to the animus behind the
information flow and software that you speak of. One should at least
cultivate awareness that there isn't simply "one world." There are many.
When we say things like "the world" I think it helps to specify which one
we're talking about. Peace.
