You want to "affirm peace" and simultaneously "promote patriotism"?? As a former Prime Minister of
France once commented, "Nationalism means war." To attain peace you will have to learn to love other
multiethnic communities as much as you do Serbia. As for the "dominant autoritarian patterns",
Authority belongs to the one who best answers those who question authority.

Lack of respect for the authority that derives from the scientific method lies at the core of most
ethnic conflicts that degenerate into violence. To attain peace, the former Yugoslavia needs to grow
up and find out how to embrace the value of (in the words of Stephen Hawking) "wondering why nature
is the way it is; where the cosmos came from, or whether is was always here; if time will one day
flow backward and effects precede causes; or whether there are ultimate limits to what humans can
know."

If you really want to get over the violence of ethnic divisiveness in Serbia, then drop everything
and move to a place where people have already passed that phase. J. R. Molloy
