John Gerrard
John Gerrard (b. 1974, Dublin, Ireland) Currently Pepiniere scholar to the Ars Electronica FutureLab in Linz, Austria. Received BFA, 1997 (Sculpture) Ruskin School of Fine Art and Drawing, Oxford University, UK. MFA, 2000 (Art + Technology) The Art Institute of Chicago, USA. MSc, 2001 (Multimedia) Computer Science Department, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Awards include : Postgraduate Art Scholarship, Travel Awards, Projects Grant, (Irish Arts Council, 1998-02) Development Grant, Gallery of Photography (2002) , Art Institute of Chicago Trustee Scholarship (1998) Recent exhibitions and projects include ‘HUMO’ a major public light projection work, with Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, ‘Portrayal’, (Model Arts and Niland Centre, Sligo) ‘Composition for Loops Blips and Flesh’, (Percussion Group of the Hague) and ‘Digiboarding’, a community based art project in the Liberties area of Dublin which utilized AVP, a realtime video editing software the artist has been collaboratively developing over the last two years. Upcoming shows include a solo show in November 2003 in the Gallery of Photography, Dublin and group shows in the US and Europe.
