On the History of Interaction between Art and Technology
Towards the Cultural Evolution of Human Beings
Itsuo Sakane (J)

Prof. Itsuo Sakane, a contemporary eyewitness to the history of media art since its earliest days, delivers his second major address at Ars Electronica—this time documenting the ‘50s and ‘60s on the basis of his incomparable collection of material. Sakane will elaborate on historical changes in digital technology’s influence upon art and shed light on the interrelationships among art, science and technology since the ‘50s. Audio and video material will trace the transition from analog to digital technology in works of art. This address will also go beyond the confines of art to show the extent to which digital art and technology can have an impact on cultural evolution and the integration of different areas of life.
