Digital Avant-Garde / Prix Selection Landscape One Luc Courchesne (CDN)
This is an interactive installation in which visitors are surrounded by a photo-realistic projection of a park. Virtual visitors to the park freely move about the landscape. Via touchscreen and speech recognition software, the observer can engage in communication with them; observers can also become park visitors and move about together with the virtual figures. The real visitors need the virtual characters in order to explore the space, and this gives rise to the overlapping of the physical and the virtual.
Commissioned by NTT InterCommunication Center, Tokyo, 1997.
