Hotspot Linz – Kick off
This is the big kick-off of the City of Linz’s pioneering wireless LAN initiative. By 2008, hundreds of public hotspots providing free, wireless Internet access will be set up at municipal cultural facilities, youth clubs, schools, kindergartens, senior centers, libraries and, of course, public squares all around town. A new sphere of urban communication can take shape, one that will be accompanied by a series of activities and projects. At the ceremony officially launching the project on September 1, Mayor Franz Dobusch will present the HotspotWebportal and an interactive WikiMap of Linz. The festivities will include live musical accompaniment to actions being staged at selected hotspot locations designed to signify the link-up of the city’s various neighborhoods with downtown. Linz locals and visitors are invited to post their narratives online via notebook and, during the Festival, at the input station in the Information Pavilion on the Main Square.
