Artists 9-11 A Film by Deborah Shaffer/USA
New York artists after September 11
Immediately following the terror attacks, director Deborah Shaffer visited New York artists to document how their lives, thinking and creative work had suddenly changed. The result was an impressive personal document that reflects the reality of that moment. Ars Electronica presents the premiere of Artists 9-11, Part II. An epilogue: after the passage of sufficient time in the wake of the events of 9-11, the same 10 New York artists—seismographs of our society—talk about their lives and work. The painters are painting again, the musicians are playing, the actors are performing ... and have built more or less direct references to September 11 into their work. Although normalcy seems to have returned, there is an enormous amount of grief and confusion evident just below the surface. In cooperation with: ORF Kunststücke
