Kunst gegen Gewalt: Iconic Panopticon Sharif Waked/IL
Iconic Panopticon exposes and transforms the stereotypes of East and West, and demonstrates the underlying relationships of power. Rectangular columns are draped with black cloth like that of a burka, the traditional outer garment of Afghan women. At eyelevel, monitors display videos of a “fashion show of self-distortion.” Isolated female bodies symbolize the isolation, the restrictions on behavior, and the powerlessness of an entire people.
