OMV Klangpark 2000
An essential characteristic of Ars Electronica and the Linzer Klangwolke—and one that has retained its importance to this day—is the principle of artistic intervention in public spaces. The 1999 experiment begun by artists like Michael Nyman to link up the digital, networked realms of the Internet with the real spaces of city life will be carried on by Klangpark 2000. An appropriate programmatic principle is the collaboration of internationally renowned composers representing different generations.
Klangpark 2000—a soundtrack for the Danube —The river is the artery pumping the economic and cultural blood linking central and eastern Europe. We are at a critical point in the history of the region, on the brink of a wider and more comprehensive integration. In this context, the songs of Maria Tanase are the nucleus of inspiration for the musical material of Klangpark. Each day is dedicated to a special piece, which is transformed and interpreted.Maria Tanase was born in 1913 and died in 1963 in Bucharest, Romania, becoming the greatest Romanian popular singer.
