Seeker Josephine Starrs, Leon Cmielewski (AU) Prix Ars Electronica 2007 “Interactive Art. Distinction.”
Leon Cmielewski and Josephine Starrs (AU) are artists who incorporate play in their work as a strategy for engaging with the social and political contradictions inherent in contemporary society. Since 1995 they have collaborated on several projects including the User Unfriendly Interface, Dream Kitchen interactive stop-motion animation and a.k.a., a short video about universal surveillance. Starrs was a founding member of the influential cyber-feminist group VNS Matrix and lectures at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney. Cmielewski lectures at the School of Communication Arts, University of Western Sydney.
