Autoinducer_Ph-1 (cross cultural chemistry)
On the basis of traditional rice cultivation methods, this installation is a reflection on the machine-like nature of ecologies. It probes into and interferes with the symbiotic relationship between the cyanobacteria Anabaena and the water fern Azolla. A synthetic software-based bacterium interacts with this organic environment in its assumed roles as part-time symbiont and part-time parasite. Outcomes of this complex relationship determine the behaviors of the robotic rice farming system that forms the physical bulk of the installation.
