Exploding Camera
Two days before 9/11, Ahmad Schah Massoud, one of the most important members of the anti-Taliban resistance, was murdered. Two suicide bombers masquerading as journalists killed him with an explosive device concealed inside a TV camera that they detonated during a purported interview. Julien Maire has disassembled a video camera but left its light sensor intact. Points of light dance through the installation, are captured by the camera, and trigger a sort of light explosion. The exhibition space thus becomes an experimental film studio reminiscent of a battlefield.
