Arabesque
Peter William Holden (DE)

Arabesque is a mechanical flower that has its roots both in Mary Shelly's Frankenstein and the alchemist's laboratory. Translucent models of life-size arms and legs reveal their robot-like mechanisms to installation visitors. The visible wiring constitutes a chaotic, abstract counterpoint to the organized symmetry of the body parts. Controlled pneumatically, the arms and legs move to the rhythm of the Blue Danube waltz like the petals of a flower. “The Blue Danube”:Written by Johann Sebastian Strauß. Performed by Herbert von Kar ajan & The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra; Special thanks to Nadja Beckendorf and Ameen Muhairez.
