New Views of Humankind
BioLab

There are hardly any areas of research that have launched as many debates as genetic engineering and microbiology have. The very fact that it has become technically feasible to modify a person’s basic genetic makeup and even to clone someone calls into question our worldview and our moral and ethical preconceptions. The BioLab delivers insights into the inner structures of life, into the make-up of cells and DNA. Special workshops provide the ideal framework for hands-on, do-it-yourself experimentation: clone your favorite plant, examine your own cells, analyze your own DNA. The objective is an intensive encounter—not at a distance, but rather up-close-and-personal perspectives and experiences. The BioLab gives you the opportunity to try out state-of-the-art equipment and investigative methods just like in a highly specialized laboratory—for example, a raster electron microscope for enlargements up to 20,000x.
