Prosthetics RoboLab Open Days at the Ars Electronica Center, January 2 to 4, 2009
A key link at the nexus of neuroscience and robotics is the development of modern prostheses. The human body’s modes of functioning are extended into the prosthesis itself. For instance, a microcontroller built into C-Leg automatically adjusts the elasticity of the artificial knee to various sequences of motions (dynamic phase, standstill phase). A further step is the direct linkup of the prosthesis to the body’s network of nerves, whereby even implanting electrodes directly into the brain is a reality.
