I/O Brush
The World as Palette
Kimiko Ryokai (US), Stefan Marti (US), Hiroshi Ishii (US) (JP)

"I/O Brush" opens up completely new dimensions for painting! Instead of paints, the entire environment can be used to create a picture.

With a special brush equipped with a video camera, light sources and touch sensors, colors, structures and movements can be recorded. This “paint” is then used to make a picture on a LCD screen. If you move the brush quickly across the screen, it produces a watercolor effect; if your strokes are slower, the “paints” look as if they have been applied more densely.
