Virtual Million Room
Ars Electronica Futurelab (AT)

High-resolution stereoscopic panorama projections as well as new content for the CAVE and the Humphrey II flight simulator offer fresh looks into the digital world of virtual reality. The Ars Electronica Futurelab’s development of the ARSBOX system has meant the creation of infrastructure that can keep up with the latest projection and processor technology. This important advance will be demonstrated with a showing of “Millionenzimmer”, a 3D simulation of the magnificent state rooms in Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace and a work that produces an amazingly authentic spatial impression. The new application for the CAVE takes visitors to spatially or temporally inaccessible places and shows them images and ideas that otherwise exist only in the imagination. From a neutral space, users can select fantastic scenarios and experience them using a variety of different navigation techniques and approaches to interaction.
