Prix Ars Electronica Gala Gerhard Schwoiger/A
The Prix Ars Electronica is the platform on which cyberartists working in a wide range of fields all over the world get together each year. The presentation of the results in the form of exhibitions, discussions with the artists, performances, concerts and screenings presented in conjunction with the Ars Electronica Festival provides a highly concentrated overview of current positions in the cyberarts. Established in 1987 by the Austrian Broadcasting Company’s Upper Austria Regional Studio, the Prix Ars Electronica brings together those artists, scientists and researchers who are reflecting on, discussing and offering commentary to the process of digital transformation, and who thus constitute the avant-garde in the profound cultural upheavals of our day. Prix Ars Electronica 2000 will hand out cash awards totaling 1.35 million Austrian Schillings donated by A-Online. Judging of projects submitted from all over the world will take place in five categories: digital musics, computer animation, visual effects, interactive art and .net. The Österreichischen Postsparkasse (P.S.K.) is the sponsor of the cybergeneration – u19 – freestyle computing competition for Austrian artists under the age of 19. With 823 submissions, this category, now in its third year, has already successfully established itself.
