Hybrid Ego. Towards A New Horizon of Hybrid Art campus | Tokyo: Exhibition Haptic Radar
Staged jointly with University of Tokyo, the 2008 installment of campus is meant to illustrate how the creative economy that’s so often evoked in this part of the world is already functioning quite successfully in Japan. The University of Tokyo (UT) was founded by the Meiji government in 1877 as the first national university. campus | Tokyo exhibition and events introduce various projects mainly from its three courses—Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies (III), Graduate School of Information Science and Technology and Graduate School of Engineering. Around 25 projects from each laboratory are exhibited here, showing a diverse range of research areas united by a kind of common theme "Hybrid Ego," as a kind of altered ego by the technologies. The University of Tokyo is by no means an art college, which is why such great significance is attributed to integrating artists into the process of educating scientists and engineers in the context of expansion to interdisciplinary research programs.
