Life in the 90ies
Thomas Oberhofer (AT)
Honorary Mention Prix Ars Electronica 1998 "Cybergeneration u19 - freestyle computing"

Life in the 90ies is an Internet application for reflecting the life feeling and the social relations of the 90ies from a very subjective perspective. Loneliness and a lack of love are the contents of my life. These negative feelings are also reflected in my work. Yet this is why I appreciate the Internet, too. Here I can completely be myself, because no one knows what I look like or what my real existence is like. I discuss capitalism, philosophy and politics with many people. Yet loneliness and sadness even followed me here. With this work I have attempted to put my feelings into a form suitable for the Internet, in order to gain a more clear perspective of them and to find a way out.
