Evolution
Alexander Kvasnicka (AT)
Honorary Mention Prix Ars Electronica 1998 "Cybergeneration u19 - freestyle computing"

Evolution is a 3D animation, approximately one minute long, which ironically traces human evolution. This is about my own version of human evolution, which is not meant to be taken entirely seriously. In principle, it is about how we human beings are capable of creating increasingly complex, more sophisticated and realistic virtual worlds, which are hardly to be distinguished from the real ones any more. And so why might it not be possible that we already live in this kind of a world ourselves and that we are only part of a giant ‘program’? To put it briefly: in my animation, God plays against the devil in a computer game, in which we human beings are the game figures.
