New Mouse
Martin Ankerl (AT)
Distinction Prix Ars Electronica 1998 "Cybergeneration u19 - freestyle computing"

New Mouse is a simulation for the control logic of an independent robot model, which may be controlled on a Windows-like surface using buttons. At our school it is often necessary to cross large distances to fetch small items. It would really be much simpler to have these kinds of errands done automatically. The optimum solution would be a robot that you could command to go into the other room or even look for a certain person, which would then return after accomplishing the task. The robot should be as independent as possible, should be able to climb stairs, and should also be able to cope with changed places, closed doors or changed building structures. It should also be able to recharge by itself. A robot equipped with these kinds of features would theoretically be completely independent and thus able to accomplish its tasks without outside help.
