Simon Oberhammer (AT)
Honorary Mention Prix Ars Electronica 1999 "Cybergeneration u19 - freestyle computing"

The program is based on the presupposition that intelligence emerges by itself, if one creates a system with simple rules that progressively complicate themselves or become ever more complex. Starting from this presupposition, I wanted to create a nice looking program involving the chaos aspect of artificial intelligence. After several ASCII-only versions, I found the tangle on the screen so attractive that I programmed a VGA version with simple graphics in simple surroundings.
