Generation 1.x
Markus Strahlhofer (AT)
Honorary Mention Prix Ars Electronica 1998 "Cybergeneration u19 - freestyle computing"

Generation 1.x is an online computer game using a conventional Web browser. “Generation 1.x“ is an exciting adventure story that may be interactively experienced in the form of an online computer game. The idea behind it comes from current media reports about gene manipulation and clones of human beings. Discussions on these topics at school and a newspaper article motivated me to combine these subjects with computers and networks. Computer-manipulated genetic information will it perhaps become reality in a not so distant future? To make the story more exciting, I had the idea of presenting it in the form of an Internet computer game. Here the player takes on the main role, has to act and react, thus influencing the course of the story.“
