Fronius - Virtual Welding
THE CAVE
Is one of the Ars Electronica Center’s most popular installations, is a cube measuring 3 x 3 x 3 meters. One side is open; the interior walls constitute its projection surfaces. In the CAVE, several individuals can simultaneously experience a virtual, three-dimensional world. The simulation technology installed here has reached such a level of sophistication that it actually gives users the feeling of being part of the installation. Doing away with the need for a data helmet—which isolated users from their environment—makes it possible for a group to visit the CAVE installation together—a social act in a virtual space.
In the Virtual Cavern: TECHNOLOGIE VIRTUAL WELDING
3-D animation was developed for the Fronius Company in order to make it possible to observe a welding process in extreme enlargement and in slow motion. Do-it-yourselfers among CAVE visitors can try their own hand at welding a seam. In corporation with Christian Doppler Laboratory for Software Engineering Mr. Prof. Dr. Gustav Pomberger.
