Zukunftspreis 2003
The ARSBOX is the core technology in the “MAILBOX” project singled out for recognition with the Future Prize for Upper Austria
At a ceremony held on June 30, 2003 at Linz’s Lentos Art Museum, the Future Prize for Upper Austria was awarded in three categories: “Innovating for the Future,” “Promoting Social Welfare” and “Enhancing Sustainable Quality of Life.”
The “MAILBOX” project submitted by Michael Shamiyeh received first prize (including a 5,000 Euro cash award) in the “Innovating for the Future” category.
The aim of the project is to employ a mobile Virtual Reality system to present Upper Austria’s cultural scene, facilities and treasures as part of an advertising campaign promoting the province throughout Europe and beyond as a region with a strong orientation on the future. Michael Shamiyeh’s concept foresees sending out a fleet of freight containers equipped with the ARSBOX system developed at the Ars Electronica Futurelab. In them, 3-D multimedia content can be displayed on panorama screens to audiences outfitted with polarization glasses.
