Art Recognition Prize of the City of Linz
On November 12, 2002, the Ars Electronica Futurelab’s staff was awarded the Art Recognition Prize of the City of Linz in the design category. The City of Linz awards the Art Recognition Prize every two years alternately with its Art Furtherance Grant. Artists with a close connection to Linz have been honored with this prize since 1959. In citing the grounds for its decision, the jury particularly emphasized the depth, breadth and diversity of the projects the Ars Electronica Futurelab has carried out—over 200 to date, many in collaboration with international associates, individual research and development assignments that, taken together, comprise a rich and wide-ranging body of work. The prizewinner in the music category is Sam Auinger, who has also had a close ongoing relationship with Ars Electronica and has made a name for himself internationally through his frequent collaborations with New York tonal artist Bruce Odlands. The Art Recognition Prize includes a cash stipend of € 3,634.
