Robert Martin
Robert Martin received a B.S. degree in printmaking and photography from Florida A&M University; M.F.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in printmaking; he is presently teaching computer art in the Department of Art and Art History at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
Although computers are now taken seriously by the art world in our advanced technological societies, it will probably take several more decades before large numbers of art lovers turn to it for emotional satisfaction. The fact that computers have been applied in advertising, music television and pop concerts leads many people to conclude that computer art is suitable only for commercial purposes. They forget that there has long been an interplay between the fine and applied arts. I enjoy making works of relevance to the present day world by using new media developed by contemporary technology.
My imagery is autobiographical. These works are a continuation of my present work with computer generated duratran and mixed media on wood. With the use of plexiglass and fluorescent lights, I am able to give the viewer a true computer image representation created on my Amiga computer with Aegis Images Software.
