Rüdiger Hirt
Rüdiger Hirt was born in Hamburg in 1952. He studied free painting with Professor Kai Sudek at Hamburg Fine Arts College from 1985-87. He has been working with computers since 1987. He has participated in several exhibitions, e.g. "Digitale Kunst" in Bremen 1989, and Bochum 1990; "Kunsthaus Kunstmarkt", 1990. He has been a member of the Fine Artists' Professional Association in Hamburg since March 1990.
Through the practical use of computers, several topics and questions have come up which I want to delve into with my work.- What is the significance of the fact that every work done on the computer is nothing but a changeable program? Especially with paint programs, a surprise effect that is not to be underestimated is noted when the picture - painted with more or less traditional techniques - appears within a minimum amount of time.
- What is the importance of the theory that DNA is simply a changeable program, if we consider, that any work is nothing but an adjustable program?
These are the reflections I attempt to convey with my works. Generally, I believe that computer graphics do not exploit the computer's capacities as a media to the extent that would be possible. After all, simple systems like the good old C64 are able to present text, images, and sounds just with the help of a monitor. In everyday use of the computer, these sounds, images and words are generally stored on either floppy discs, hard discs or magnetic tape - which I consider the only suitable way to store computer art.
