HONORARY MENTION
Sakuratei
Taku Kimura
"Sakuratei" is an experimental piece which was made in co-operation with IMA-GICA corporation. The work was directed by Koji Matuoka, and the music was made by Jun Miyake.
In this piece, we aimed to emphasize our unique expression. The story is set in the future, but the image itself is basically analogue, and the motif of the expression is "nostalgic and uniquely Japanese". The following elements have contributed to the successful creation of this unique world: * The actions in daily scenes using motion-capture (sweeping, drowsing, playing Shougi - Japanese chess, etc.). * The natural movement using physical simulation for petals and background. * The small and artificial space imaging a stage. * Imagery with a small depth of field, which provides objects with specific existences. * The shades and textures which are painted by hand (without using techniques like reflection, shade, transparency) to remove the typical touches of computer-generated images. * Coloring infinitely close to monochrome. * Unchangeable expressions just tike Noumen (a mask used in the Japanese play No). * The beautifully melodious music, which is performed by instruments.
