HONORARY MENTION
Trick or Treats
Candice Clémencet, Jean-Dominique Fievet
It is Halloween night, and as usual, the children are out in their neighborhoods wearing costumes and masks to claim sweets from the neighbors. But woe to those, who don’t want to hand anything over - in this case, the most astonishing tricks are allowed!
Our two heroes—real little devils, costumed as a witch and a mummy—are so crazy about bonbons and lollipops, that they take extreme measures to increase the generosity of the more reserved residents. Yet their greed, which they will ultimately regret, finally drives them into a trap ...
The idea for this film came to us in 1999. We like the idea of Halloween as a context because of the atmosphere that it implies, a kind of happy, macabre celebration mixed with childish pranks. We took children’s books as sources, as well as films like Beetlejuice or The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton. For the scenario, we were freely inspired by Hansel and Gretel, where two heroes greedy for sweets end up at a gingerbread house, which turns out to be witch’s trap, because she wants to eat them.
The production covered our last year of studies. We spent about three months on preproduction, then six months on the realization with 3D StudioMax 3.1, Character Studio and Photoshop. Montage was done on an Edit-Station. For the soundtrack, we contacted the Supersonic Studio in Paris, where we received friendly and extensive help with the mixing.
This work was a wonderful experience and helped us to further our careers. We are currently working on a series of animated 3D cartoons in Luxembourg.
