Shadow Puppets
Chuck Gamble
Chuck Gamble, born 1964, studied fine arts and computer animation at Rochester Institute of Technology. Worked as a creative director, illustrator and graphic artist, currently freelance cartoonist and animator for children's interactive software. He also likes to fish.
"Shadow Puppets" is the story of man's search for freedom in a dark world of cruelty and oppression. My goal in making this movie was to create an obvious surface narrative that left the deeper themes open to interpretation by the viewer. I feel that "Shadow Puppets" represents many stories and struggles and can have a strong, personal meaning for each individual viewer. Another lesser goal was to distance the film from it's computer origin. Revealing the technology beneath a work is often a distraction, and I didn't want to put any barriers between the audience and my film. My use of a computer is to produce an effective work, not to showcase the technology.
This short is my first attempt at computer animation. It was produced over a one year period using a Macintosh Computer with MacroMind Director software.
