Since I was unfortunately still not allowed to see any of the Lord of the Ring films at the movies or on DVD, I thought I would try to make my own film version that wouldn’t be so brutal. I already knew the story from comics and people telling me about it. And not long ago, I also started reading the books, though I’m not all that far yet. Of course, I’ve seen some passages from the films—my parents weren’t able to prevent that completely.

Luckily, I had the little Lord of the Ring figures from my “Kinder Surprise Egg” set. They would have to do as the actors. I found the right background for each scene in a calendar and on the Internet (I printed and cut them out). Then I copied the individual images using a simple scanner. This gave them a funny look, because the images were a bit blurred. On the computer I edited them in places a little. The most complicated but also the most interesting part of the work was making the soundtrack. With Audacity, an audio editing programme, I recorded my voice and distorted it using different filters—for each figure a different voice had to be made to fit. On top of that, there were different sound effects, of course, and in the end even music in some places. With Windows MovieMaker, I combined the individual tracks and images to make the film—I even made the final credits.
