At first glance, the homepage Kulturhauptstadt 09 (Capital of Culture 09) causes scepticism and confusion. It hardly seems plausible that a place like Bad Leonfelden, a small town near the Czech border, could have been chosen as Capital of Culture 2009. Yet Bad Leonfelden’s attractions are diverse and have an lofty, avant-garde quality. We realized the basic idea of our Kulturhauptstadt 09 project in the form of a website because the Internet is a particularly well-suited medium for implementing fictional contents. Each member of the team could contribute his or her ideas. Nevertheless, the basic design runs through the entire site and was worked out by the whole team. We made sketches, drawings, photos and baked models, and then integrated them into the landand townscape of Bad Leonfelden using the digital image editing programme Photoshop. With the aid of Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, the images which had been procured in this fashion were then combined with elaborate frames, navigation icons and links to form the overall project.
