Musicotherapie is a short film about insane animals playing music in a psychiatric hospital for animals.
The idea comes from the desire to make a film that is both musical and comic. The scene takes place in a psychiatric hospital, because such a scenario makes it possible to create crazy characters with disturbed personalities, who can easily behave in a funny way. We wanted something very flat, a rendering that looks more like 2D-cartoons, because we dislike the usual 3D renderers. We were inspired by graffiti and street-art culture, which is full of characters with flat colors and rounded arms. The style of the animation is pose-to-pose (“cartoony”, like old 2D cartoons).
During the film, we wanted the way the animals play music to become crazier and crazier. At the beginning they’re only playing on objects. At the end, we wanted something more “extreme”, so they’re playing on their bodies!
For music, first we made the storyboard and a mute animation, then we sent it to the musician, who produced “made-to-measure” music for it.
