DISTINCTION
gARbage ™ (Netdump)
Gerhard Schwoiger

A completely differnent approach to networked society is evident in this Award for "gARbage ™ (Netdump)". Gerhard Schwoiger is an excellent web designer and programmer. In addition, he is also interested in other people´s rubbish. He has created a online community that is linked through its common rubbish. This is the theme of privacy fom the perspective of a young developer.

This project is intended to call attention to the growing problem of garbage. A shock is needed to convey the desolate situation. Yet it should also provide information about all the themes and statistics related to garbage. These two aspects together are not intended to represent an information platform in the conventional sense, but should instead be regarded as an art experiment. The project attempts to shift a media design, which has only been familiar previously from music broadcasters like MTV, to the on-line level. However, this already poses certain system requirements as a prerequisite to the user. The absolute minimum requirements for problem-free viewing of gARbage TM Netdump are a picture resolution of 1024 x 768, Internet Explorer version 5.x (Netscape is only partially supported), a soundcard and a processor with at least 200 Mhz.
