Autumn Line-up of Special Events at the Museum of the Future
Workshops and special tours are among the Ars Electronica Center’s top fall features. There’s a profusion of new interactive installations that make virtual worlds accessible to young and old alike and make for a family outing that’s as entertaining as it is educational. Visit Ars Electronica and discover how much fun getting smart can be!

Take a virtual tour of the imperial state rooms in Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace, dive the underwater cyber-world of the beautiful blue Danube, and marvel at the pets of the future in our Robo-Zoo. A visit to the Ars Electronica Center delivers impressions from across the entire spectrum of high tech, but the chief focus constantly remains on the visitor’s proactive, hands-on encounter with installations designed to reveal the amazing possibilities new technologies have in store and how society will soon be utilizing them. Plus, we’ll be offering special tours and workshops throughout fall 2005 that provide in-depth background information about the exhibits and nurture participants’ efforts to get more actively involved. After all, confronting the technologies of the future also means scrutinizing them in detail with a critical eye.

Looking for interesting activities for autumn weekends?
Check out the Ars Electronica Center!

Cyberworlds – Special Tour
Visualization is one of today’s hottest topics and the list of its applications is constantly growing longer. Industry, R&D, professional training and entertainment are some of the numerous fields that are taking advantage of the possibilities of replicating reality using a computer. The Ars Electronica Center has accorded this trend the recognition it’s due by creating spaces specially designed to experience visualization. In addition to new programs for the CAVE, visitors can also discover the new V-Arena, a set-up customized for the encounter with astonishing 3D domains. Here, a host of applications illustrates the wide-ranging possibilities for putting amazing virtual worlds into everyday practice—from the reconstruction of Austria’s precious cultural heritage (for instance, the fabulous Millionenzimmer in Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace) all the way to futuristic simulation models. The special Cyberworlds tour provides background information and details about what’s up in this field.

Getting Creative in Robolab
Robots are getting increasingly sophisticated and are performing an ever-wider range of tasks for their human masters. This comes as no surprise; nevertheless, there are still very few of us who have had personal contact with this new generation of mechanical gofers. Now, the Ars Electronica Center is offering visitors the opportunity to try their own hand at programming robots and to get an up-close-and-personal look at the pets of the future. And just in passing, as it were, participants also learn a thing or two about the latest developments in the field of robotics and the areas in which these modern-day helpmeets are being deployed.

New Inhabitants of Gulliver’s World
In Gulliver’s World, the accent is on creativity and imagination. Seven interactive stations invite visitors to design a virtual world and generate the creatures that inhabit it. In “New Inhabitants of Gulliver’s World,” kids can shape plastiline modeling clay into their own personalized action figures for Gulliver’s World and then use a 3D scanner to insert their creations into the virtual realm. Last but not least, they can even “beam” themselves into Gulliver’s World and, as a little souvenir of the experience, take home a picture documenting their virtual outing with the figures they’ve created.
