Ars Electronica - Technological Progress and Global Reach in Linz Ars Electronica stands for the world’s leading media arts festival, a superlative state-of-the-art museum, and an innovative R&D facility. The Ars Electronica Festival, the Ars Electronica Center – Museum of the Future, and the Ars Electronica Futurelab are big draws that attract visitors, tourists, clients and associates from throughout Upper Austria and around the world.
With 90,000 visitors a year, Ars Electronica’s activities reach a large and diverse audience, including many key opinion leaders such as journalists. Approximately 400 members of this elite target group travel to Linz during the six days of the Festival expressly to report on what is one of the most internationally significant events in the field of media art. The AEC is also a popular attraction for visitors from Upper Austria and Linz—700 guests attended the Ars Electronica’s recent Open House, 800 came in conjunction with a similar event put on by the City of Linz, and the “Long Night of the Museums” brought a throng of almost 1,500 visitors. This is indicative of the local populace’s tremendous ongoing interest. The Museum updates its exhibits and infrastructure each year, so it pays to stop by regularly since there’s always something new to see. Ars Electronica makes a unique, high-profile contribution to the city’s image. After all, what do most people associate with Linz? No doubt Bruckner and Kepler. And Ars Electronica, of course. Indeed, a little experiment with the Google search engine yields interesting results—with 59,000 hits, the AEC comes in well ahead of Anton Bruckner’s 48,000. This year, Ars Electronica will be celebrating its 25th anniversary—a success story that shows no signs of slowing down.
