Long Night of Videos at the Ars Electronica Center
Young artists have come up with an impressively wide range of approaches to the medium of video. A sampling of works from across this broad spectrum will be screened on April 8 in the Museum of the Future’s SKY Media Loft Café & Bar. Admission is free of charge.

Chips and cola. A cozy, casual atmosphere. A big screen. A stack of videos by young filmmakers from the Province of Upper Austria. A great deal of imagination and a whole lot fun. Those are the ingredients that have gone into the recipe for success of the LONG NIGHT OF VIDEOS being staged for the third time this year. This “program extension”—an event held in conjunction with the “Zündstoff” (“fuel to the fire”) Young Peoples’ Theater Festival—presents films by deeply committed, up-and-coming artists. This will be the first year that these cinematic works by young people from Upper Austria will be showcased in the dramatic ambience of the Sky Media Loft at the Ars Electronica Center. Master of ceremonies is Martin (Maff) Honzik.

“‘Zündstoff’ is a fascinating experiment in youth theater, and the ‘Long Night of Videos’ enhances the program by including the medium of film. That’s why I’m especially pleased that we here at the Ars Electronica Center have the opportunity to host this special event,” said Nicoletta Blacher, director of the Museum of the Future.

This year’s lineup includes dramatic works, commercials, documentaries, films utilizing special effects and animation, as well as video clips with a wide range of subjects and content. Interviews with the young filmmakers provide a behind-the-scenes look at the production process.
The audience in attendance will then vote to choose their four favorites from among all the short films and videos screened. The selected works will then be presented to a larger audience on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 5 PM at Programmkino moviemento, Linz’s art house cinema located at Dametzstraße 30.

As an added attraction, 2 festival passes donated by the organizers of the Crossing Europe International Film Festival will be raffled off among LONG NIGHT OF VIDEOS audience members.

The Long Night Of Videos film screening is staged in conjunction with the ZÜNDSTOFF School Theater Week held April 4-8 in Linz’s theaters (Landestheater, Phönix, Theater des Kindes), at which 29 school and youth theater groups present their current productions.

This is a “don’t miss” event for all cinéasts, film buffs and those in the making!
