Poesie der Bewegung

Ars Electronica Center
Level +2

In a world whose inhabitants have armed themselves to the teeth with computers, cellphones, GPS receivers and other digital devices, artists have gotten into the swing of things and designed machines that, rather than serving automation and efficiency maximization, showcase mechanical motion as a purely aesthetic experience. They have animated these mechanisms with the breath of life; they give narrative accounts with them, these artfully construed apparatuses that open up realms in which elements of fantasy and imagination can come out and play.

Artists Creators Engineers

Three terms that describe an image of the artist, an image that is closely connected to the history of media art and that has occupied the focal point of Ars Electronica’s activities for 30 years. Artists, Creators, Engineers: creative artists at the interface of technology and society, who combine an artistic vision with a high level of technical know-how, and provide a key impetus to shaping our modern media-based society.

“Open Sailing” is an open-source, globally coordinated project that aims to design a new platform to overcome any possible natural or man-made disaster, stimulating people’s ingenuity and sense of solidarity: an “open architecture”, a drifting village of solid and comfortable shelters surrounded by flexible ocean-farming units.
