For Ars this year: Origins: Transgressing Frontiers in in Art-Science Collaboration
1 August 2011, 8:02 am
I willl be talking at Ars Electronica this year.
Their theme is Origins, they have a project with CERN
here is my talk abstract= would be interested in any comments or suggestions
on how to develop this idea !!

Origins: Transgressing Frontiers in in Art-Science Collaboration
Astronomers and physicists find themselves deeply interconnected as
they investigate the origin and evolution of the universe and its
dependence on understanding the nature of matter at the smallest
scales; the infinitely large and the infinitely small are coupled
across many frontiers of scale. The search for origins is one that
permeates many fields in the sciences as well as the arts and
humanities; closely coupled to the idea of origins is the idea of
frontiers. Today we see a proliferation of innovative collaborations
between artists and scientists and their cultural embedding is
important in understanding their motivation and unfolding. Metaphors,
analogies and models are not always translatable between disciplines,
and by their nature trans-disciplinary practices are trans-gressive of
borders. We need to re-examine our concepts of frontiers, their
cultural loading, but also how scientific developments are shifting
the concepts of frontiers and borders whether through the impact of
biometrics, the science of complex networks, or the coupling of
virtual and physical spaces. In this talk I will use the ideas around
origins and frontiers to discuss some contemporary examples of art
science collaboration.
