Soundcloudminiatures

The voestalpine Klangwolke is an event meant to be by and for one and all. Get active, get involved!

Produce your own Klangwolke miniatures—songs, tracks, samples, noise, sounds, textures. Only two rules apply to Klangwolke miniatures: they can’t be more than a minute long, and they have to be audible.

Marco Palewicz (AT) will use the submitted material to compose an episode for the voestalpine Klangwolke that will be staged on September 1, 2012 at 8:30 PM. The following day, September 2, 2012, all the submitted Klangwolke miniatures will be the featured highlights of a special showcase in which the Klangwolke’s massive 300,000-watt sound system rains them down upon Linz’s riverside Donaupark for an entire day.

How does it work?

Record your Klangwolke miniature. You can use a smartphone or a PC; all that’s required is a microphone, an audio program and inspiration. Try out Soundcloud; the smartphone apps give you everything you need. Ultimately, your Klangwolke miniature has be put into a digital format (mp3, wav, aiff, …). Once you’ve reached that point, upload it to one of the categories on this website. Your Klangwolke miniature will be used either as part of a composition played on Saturday or broadcast over the course of the following Sunday.

Legal Matters: The Soundcloudminiatures are supposed to be created by you. Please do not submit material that is under copyright of someone else. It’s about your inspiration and your work, not about your favorite songs by others.

We might use your Soundcloudminiatures during the events on September 1st and 2nd, and also for documentation and advertising of the voestalpine Soundcloud. This includes using the Soundcloudminiatures on TV and Radio, online (Soundcloud, our websites, Youtube, …) and on discs (CD, DVD, Blueray). Ars Electronica does not claim ownership of your work, your copyright remains intact.

The Ars Electronica Center now houses the SoundLab, an open studio to play around with sound. There’s workshops taking place in this area, and no matter if you are new to music or expirienced, this is a nice place to be and work on your Klangwolke Miniatures.
