The human brain is an extraordinarily complex organ containing several billion nerve cells and several times that many connections and synapses
among those cells. Sure, size matters, but it’s the interplay—the socalled connectome—that determines our mentality and our personality. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) makes it possible to depict a portion of this network of nerves in a living person’s brain. This enables neurologists to, among other things, recognize interrelationships in the brain and understand thought processes. This MRI Tour of Linz General Hospital will show how it works.
